Is there some thing that can help with jet lag

Is there some thing that can help with jet lag?
In February I am going to New Zealand for 10 days. I am flying out of Cleveland to LA and then to Auckland, New Zealand. The total flight is about 26 hours and I was wondering there is something I can take that will help me with jet lag. Also does anybody know of a sleeping pill I could take on the planes to help put me to sleep? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Melatonin. When you have jet lag it is because your body isn't producing the right amount of melatonin. Take a bottle with you and just take one before your first night's sleep in New Zealand, and the same when you get back.

Having flown back and forth from Dayton to Auckland a few times now, I can tell you that I don't seem to have much of a problem with jet lag when flying from the states to New Zealand. However, going back the other way is hellish for me to adjust to. The best thing I could suggest OTC is some Benedryl. It might make you drowsy. Barring that, you could ask your doctor for a few sleeping pills, but be sure to try one before you fly to see how you react. (I did that one time - had horrible nightmares so decided it was better just to sleep as naturally as possible (yeah, right) on the plane). You will likely be offered two meals on the transpacific flight - dinner, and breakfast. Drink plenty of water on the flight, too. Hope you enjoy your trip! I live up north, north of Whangarei, in Bay of Islands.
