Does international friend have to pass through customs every time he flies in the US

Does international friend have to pass through customs every time he flies in the US?
I have a friend who's from the UK flying into Houston on March 8. He'll obviously have to pass through customs and stuff then. A week later, he and I will be flying to Cleveland, OH. My question is, would he have to pass through customs again or is it just the initial flight into the US that he has to pass customs? We have a connecting flight and I just need to know if we need to get to the airport earlier than usual?

You only have to pass through customs when you arrive in the US on a flight originating in a different country. He will need his passport to get through security check on all domestic flights though. You shouldn't need to get to the airport any earlier than usual
