Airline "operated by", which airlines baggage policy do i pay for?
Hello. So next summer I am going to my home country of Serbia in Europe. I reside in Cleveland. I found good priced tickets for $1,500 it is Cleveland - Newark - Munich - Belgrade route, and they all have Lufthansa signs. So the first flight out of Cleveland says "operated by continental" and the last one says "operated by lufthansa city line". My question is, do I follow Lufthansa's luggage policy since I am using them internationally, or Continental's since I am using them out of my departure point? On the way back? Please help! Everyone I am asking is clueless lol thank you :) By the way, the trip back is the same stuff.

AS long as your continental and lufthansa tickets are issued together you will not have to pay baggage fees on the domestic portion. You will follow Continental's international baggage policy for the Cleveland - newark flight and Lufthansa's policy for the Newark - Munich flight

you use the operating carrier ruesel

You should give Lufthansa or Continental a call. Quite often when flying a domestic and an international bought on one itinerary, you are allowed the higher international baggage allowance and exempt from domestic baggage fees. However, Lufthansa's website states that you MAY have to adhere to the baggage policy of codeshare airlines when flying airlines with different baggage policies. Give one or both of the airlines a call to find out for sure. http://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/Free-baggage-allowance

If your bag is checked all the way to Belgrade, then you should use Continental's baggage rule since they are the airline you are flying with. I would think that on the way back, you would follow Lufthansa's baggage rule. When you arrive in Newark, since it is an international flight, you should not have to pay to check-in your luggage to Cleveland. I say this because you will have to pick-up your luggage at baggage claim and then check it at the Continental Airline's ticket counter. But to be safe, it does not hurt to call Continental Airlines and confirm.
