I got home from the airport and realized my suitcase has a huge rip in it! What do I do?
It was a Delta flight from Atlanta to Cleveland. I just threw my bag in the car and went home when I noticed it; the info says I have to go back to the airport within 24 hours, but its too damn far.

you got two choices go and complain or accept that your luggage is ruined.

Why don't you call and see if you have any other options. You need to let them know about your suitcase for them to do anything. Tell them it's a long way back to the airport, what else can you do to get compensated. They throw luggage around like a piece of paper. No wonder luggage gets damaged. good luck)

Basically you would have to call and complain a lot. If you do it again and again they will eventually give in. However if they do not I am sorry tro say that you will have to accept the fact that your bag is ruined and you will just have to buy a new. Another big factor is how big the rip is wxactly. If it is not big enough they may tell it is not sufficient damage for them to fix it. Remember alwaus that airlines are greedy and cheap companies.

Details are no doubt written in Delta's 'Contract of Carriage', and unless you do what Delta requires you to do in order to address the damage, then you own a ripped suitcase with no recourse.

i do not see any chance of getting reimbursed for the damamge if not notified upon arrival to the airline staff. i had my suitcase totally damaged a few months back and inspite of the damage report issued by their staff at an overseas airport they wanted me to take the bag to their ny office ( i leave in nj ) for visual inspection. as i had discarded the bag in india there was no way i could have taken it to their office. i will get reimbursed but they try to make it difficult. again,if you keep on calling them they might but that is a long shot. good luck
